It was essential that „Download This Album For Free“ would appear on platforms such as
The critique implied by the title would only make sense within the frame of these big evil platforms which distribute music to very many people and who leave very little money for the ones creating what they distribute. But CD Baby, the company which distributes music to these evil distributors, could not accept the title given to the album, because the evil distributors do not accept album titles with price indication. There was no use arguing with Rene Magritte’s „Ceci n’est pas une pipe“. Despite the fact that the album was already pressed on vinyl and printed on cardboard, for the evil distributors a compromise needed to be made which lead to the renaming of the album to „You Can’t Download This Album For Free Here“. This title was accepted, but for shady reasons not the new design handed in. A rework of the added text (you can’t / here) had to be made, because „at the moment, that green text appears to be written on a phone.“
The release of the album was accompanied by a social media campaign comprised of short videos of the recording process, Slowly Going Mad, as well as two video clips:
Pile Up Guilt and
The latter was made out of the communication between CD Baby and me, arguing about the title and cover design of the album.
